N42 Engine Head Acquired.

Well thanks to one of the Viczcar members Lurch. I now have an N42 engine head. The N42 is found on the L28 engine commonly found in the 280zx in Australia. I believe it can also be found on other cars such as the 280C. They are quite common compared with other heads like the P90 which is only found in some later 1980 patrols.

At this stage I won’t be going into what engine head is the best, simply because I am yet to take my N42 to the machine shop and get the cylinder heads flowed and tested. It also depends on variables such as compression ratio, pistons to be used, rods and crank configuration. I will say that in my opinion these two heads are the best heads to start out with. Literally all L-series engine heads can be modified to perform to the same standards give or take a couple of exceptions.

See pictures of the head (before cleaning) and any port work.
