I decided that it would be appropriate to write a post regarding S30 Zcar chassis prefix’s and what they mean. There seems to be much confusion regarding what means what and the information I have seen seems to be deep and buried in discussion boards and not readily available online.
So before I begin I would like to state that, the information contained on this page is not neccessarily correct. While I will do my best to present this information as accurately as possible, I would appreciate any experts on the subject to correct any wrong doings or errors I may have made.
First I’ll start with the Australian Market since this is what I’m most familiar with.
Australian & European Market
- HS30 - The chassis prefix used on the Datsun 240z. I believe the first 240z in the country was HS30 - 0004. Fitted with an L24 Engine and available in both 5 speed and Automatic. Build dates started in 1970 despite some claims that there were 1969 models.
- RS30 - The chassis prefix as used on the Datsun 260z 2 seater version only. Fitted with the L26 engine a stroked version of the L24.
- GRS30 - The chassis prefix as used on the Datsun 260z 2+2. The G signifies the fact that it was a 4 seater version. Fitted with the L26 a stroked version of the L24. Production ran until late 1977.
Japanese Domestic Market (JDM)
- S30 - Nissan Fairlady Z Fitted with an L20A and carbuerettors.
- S130 - Nissan Fairlady Z Fitted with an L20E engine and injected.
- GS130 - Nissan Fairlady Z 2 by 2 Fitted with an L20E engine.
- PS30 - Nissan Fairlady Z 432 fitted with an S20 Engine (4 Valves, 3 Carbuerettors, 2 Camshafts).
- PS30-SB - Nissan Fairlady Z 432R Fitted with an S20 Engine and specifically built for racing purposes. Chassis Suffix ‘SB’ was not found on chassis itself rather used by the factory to specify the model type. More about the 432R
- HS30-H - Nissan Fairlady 240ZG fitted with an L24 Engine and Gnose aerodynamic package which included headlight covers and fender flares. Again suffix ‘H’ not visible on chassis but used by factory to reference particular model.
Referenced from here and here.
American Market
- HLS30 - Datsun 240z fitted with an L24 Engine and with build dates starting in 1969. L signifies the left hand drive version.
- RLS30 - Datsun 260z fitted with an L26 Engine, build dates began in 1974.
- GRLS30 - Datsun 260z 2+2 fitted with an L26 engine and 2 additional seats. Left hand drive.
- HLS30 - Datsun 280z also used the HLS30 but much later sequence of chassis numbers. Fitted with L-Jetronic Injection and larger US required 5mph safety bumpers.

I hope that clears things up for a people a little. Please feel free to comment or send me an email to notify me of any problems or mistakes.
